SIMMER DOWN SATURDAYS:
I have a confession to make. I don't love Los Angeles...yet. I love elements of it, however, such as the weather. I love that my husband's acting career is taking off here, that we own a home here, we have an amazing dog and most of my East coast friends have migrated here. I'm not gonna let this BLOG be a griping section about why I hate LA and desperately miss NYC. I realized that all of that energy isn't constructive and only makes sitting in LA traffic and driving by endless strip-malls that much more painful.
My weekends are now dedicated to exploring more of Los Angeles, to see what I might have been missing before placing such harsh judgment on it. I'm already addicted to the beach communities of Venice and Santa Monica. I love that they're eclectic; with a unique array of boutiques and restaurants that are mainly privately owned and boast the individuality of those that dreamed them into existence. I love that the neighborhoods are dotted with yoga, pilates and movement studios, vegetarian/vegan & raw foods options, holistic health care, spiritual book stores, art galleries and performance spaces. And I love the community oriented events including local flea markets. Plus, they're dog-friendly which is a major bonus, because we love to take Brooklyn everywhere we go. My all-time favorite street is Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice. Oh, to own a home near that street... That's on my vision board, by the way.
Maybe next week, we'll explore the Silver Lake/ Los Feliz area. It's funny that you have to make it a point to venture into other neighborhoods because LA is so spread out. But, I'm determined to find 'my place', 'my niche' in Los Angeles. I'm sure it has way more to offer... if I remain open to it.
