TEACHING TUESDAYS: Pilates On-line
YouTube is my recent fascination in cyberspace. Everybody and their mama is creating an audience for themselves by filming anything and everything and posting it on YouTube. Then, curious people like me fritter away valuable time staring at the computer screen.
But now I consider my time spent on YouTube as research! Yep! I've found a plethora of videos from around the world featuring people doing Pilates demonstrations, promoting their Pilates DVDs or advertising their studios. I've seen some amazing Pilates, some creative Pilates, some questionable Pilates and some cool news coverage on Pilates, its history and its benefits.
The footage below comes from a Pilates studio in Milan, Italy called The Art of Pilates. The owner is a Level IV trainer for Romana's Pilates and owns two studios. You have to check out the photos of her newest state-of-the-art Gratz studio (studio via belleza)! What I think is cool about this clip is that you get to see advanced and super-advanced classical Pilates exercises on classical apparatus. It's a glimpse into the Pilates world that very few people get to see or ever experience. You'll notice Romana Kryzanowska (one of Joseph Pilates protegees) walking around giving instruction. And, although the editing is a little annoying, you get to see still photos of Joseph Pilates doing his own work.
Here's another cool clip from one of my MySpace friends, Louise Taube in Australia. This clip is currently featured on Pilates-Pro too, which is a great on-line Pilates magazine. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet! Anyway, Louise features a nice mix of classical and contemporary Pilates with really creative editing. I think she's genius!
If you go to YouTube and search under "classical Pilates" you'll find some pretty cool clips of Peter Fiasca with his impeccable form or instructional clips from the twins, Katherine & Kimberly Corp, owners of Pilates on Fifth. Search under "Pilates" and you'll get find pages containing a wide array of stuff from Pilates on the Pole or Pilates on the Ball or Pilates for your Wedding Day... Have fun exploring!
