TEACHING TUESDAYS:
Today was my first day of rehearsals for the Spice Girl Reunion Tour! For those of you new to my BLOG, I'm the stand-in for Scary Spice during the rehearsal process. So, why am I blogging about it on "teaching Tuesdays"? Because, by taking this job, I made a conscious choice to take an 8-week hiatus from teaching Pilates. I can't even begin to explain the inner battle I experienced in making this decision. I love teaching Pilates; the mental and creative challenge plus the reward of seeing people's bodies transform. But, at the same time, I still crave the stage and the creative process that takes place before the curtain goes up (so to speak). Rehearsing, dancing and performing again feels like returning home. It's what I've known since the age of 5.
So many of us Pilates instructors are dancers. It seems like a natural career progression. But I always wonder if others, like me, are left with a little pang in their heart when hanging up their dancing shoes and stepping into a career as a Pilates instructor. Although I feel passionate about both dance and Pilates, the feelings I derive from each are completely different. Where I'm going with this, I don't even know. It's just a ramble. All I know is that today felt spectacular and I plan on relishing in every moment of the next 8 weeks.
